OUR HISTORY
The Recovery (Drug) Court began planning in the Fall of 2009 when a visionary group of justice professionals came together to find an alternative way to keep from seeing the same faces appearing before them in the court. The Recovery (Drug) Court Team was invited to attend the National Association of Drug Court Professionals Drug Court Planning Initiative in Spring of 2010 to learn about the innovative approach of combining drug treatment with the structure and authority of a judge. By July of 2011, the Recovery Court accepted its first participant into the Recovery (Drug) Court program. Since program inception, July 2011, the Recovery Court has accepted numerous participants into the program and helped facilitate lasting recovery by helping to break the cycle of addiction in individuals from all seven counties in the 13th Judicial District.
Soon after learning about the immergence of Veterans Treatment Courts across the United States, the same group of justice involved professionals started researching the number of incarcerated veterans across the 13th Judicial District. Upon learning the astounding numbers of incarcerated veterans in the local county jails, the Veterans Treatment Court began with planning for a program geared specifically toward veterans with alcohol and drug addiction stemming from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), traumatic brain injury, and other service related issues. In April of 2015, the Veterans Treatment Court accepted its first participant into the program.
